At eBay, the community is of ultimate importance. It's the heart of our business. eBay company founder, Pierre Omidyar, said, "Personally, I have always believed in helping people to become the best they can be." To support this sentiment, we started the eBay Foundation in June 1998, funded through a donation of 107,250 shares of eBay stock to Community Foundation Silicon Valley (CFSV).

CFSV is a tax-exempt public charity whose mission is to promote philanthropy and build a strong community. Funds provide the tools, hope, and direction people need to seek new skills, and the teachers to help them recognize their potential. Through the eBay Foundation, the eBay family is able to contribute to the larger community. Equally rewarding, employees from all eBay departments can play a role in defining how monies are spent. After all, the eBay Foundation provides a way for the collective eBay family to enrich all communities where we all live, work, and play.
